Das gab auch Forschern verschiedenster Disziplinen in Deutschland den Anlass, dieses Konzept aufzugreifen und zu empirisch zu begründen.
Im folgenden Aufsatz soll es darum gehen, diese Neukonzeption zu begründen. Zunächst werden die Hauptelemente der Kulturindustriethese erörtert um zu zeigen, dass diese Kritik nicht ohne weiteres auf verschiedene Gesellschaften übertragbar ist. Eine Neukonzeption des Kulturverständnisses liefern die Cultural experiences, die damit als Gegenbewegung zur Frankfurter Schule verhandelt werden. Hier soll in einem Kapitel genauer betrachtet werden, vor welchem historisch-politischen Hintergrund diese neue Kulturauffassung entstand. Besonders Augenmerk wird auf Konzepte von Stuart corridor und John Fiske gelegt, auf die immer wieder Bezug genommen wird. In beiden Modellen wird die Einbeziehung des Alltags und des sozialen Umfelds in die Bedeutungsgebung von Medientexten gerechtfertigt.
Auch deutsche Vertreter der Cultural reviews greifen in ihren Studien immer wieder auf die Konzepte von corridor und Fiske zurück. Sie unterstützen die Aufwertung der Populärkultur.
